Getting to Milan

Milan, Italy has become an increasingly popular vacation destination for travelers and tourists, and because of this transportation to and from the city has improved. There are several ways that visitors can get to Milan, whether they are coming by plane, boat, train, or car.

By Plane
Milan is actually home to four different airports. There are the two major international airports, Linate airport and Malpensa airport, and two smaller airports, Orio al Serio airport and Parma airport, that have many of the budget airlines. Malpensa is the biggest airport and your best bet for finding a flight from outside of Europe. They have airlines that service most of the continents in the world. Linate airport is smaller but still receives many flights from other countries in Europe and other destinations throughout Italy. Airlines such as AirItaly and RyanAir mostly arrive in the smaller airports, such as Orio al Serio. Once you arrive at one of Milan's airports there are a few options for how you can get about and into the center of the city. Malpensa airport offers express trains for the fastest way to get into Milan. You can also take a bus, taxi, shuttle, or rent a car and drive in yourself.

By Train
The main train station in Milan is the Central Station, served by the state railways. There are trains arriving here from all of the major cities in Italy, including Venice, Rome, Naples, Florence, and more. In addition, express and overnight trains arrive here from other countries in Europe. They have trains to and from Paris, Barcelona, Zurich, Geneva, and other cities.

By Bus
Lampugnano station is the main bus station in Milan. There are bus lines that offer service to most of the cities in Italy, as well as to and from a few other countries in Europe.

By Car
It is possible to drive into Milan, and there are many roads connecting into to other parts of Italy. However, Milan is overly crowded, so if you choose to drive in you'll have to either leave your car in a car park outside of the city and get around by public transportation, or else pay a traffic congestion fee to bring your car into the city.
